Jason Botel
Head of Government Relations
Jason Botel leads government relations efforts at Nerdy and is responsible for building relationships with leaders across state and local government and education agencies. Jason started his career as a Teach For America corps member at Booker T. Washington Middle School, a traditional public middle school in West Baltimore. In 2001, Jason joined KIPP, one of the largest national networks of public charter schools, and in 2002 founded KIPP Baltimore. Jason led KIPP Baltimore for 11 years before serving as Executive Director of MarylandCAN: The Maryland Campaign for Achievement Now, part of the 50CAN national network. Jason went on to serve in a number of leadership roles at the United States Department of Education, including Acting Assistant Secretary of Elementary and Secondary Education, and then served as Vice President of Strategic Partnerships at FullBloom, where he led government relations and sales. Jason holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in English from the University of Pennsylvania and a Master’s degree in Education Administration from National-Louis University.
